Materials

Materials

The Ultra Vesta 4.0 is made out of a mesh and nylon blend. In fact, there are many different types of mesh that make up this vest. The first we should mention is the 150g flex mono mesh, then comes the micro mono mesh, followed by 4-way stretch mono mesh. This alone should tell how much care Ultimate Direction took when creating their vest. This amazing combination of different kinds of mesh ensures you get the ultimate comfort and airflow when wearing this vest. The nylon is featured in the ripstops present around the vest surface. The 30D coated nylon ripstop is a specialized technique where nylon is woven in patterns that give the vest a solid structure and excellent resistance to wear and tear damage. All in all, Ultimate Direction made sure that the vest is made with the best possible materials before sending it off to the public!
Durability

Durability

The Vesta 4.0 is a very durable backpack. The reason why is very simple - the nylon ripstops we just mentioned above, plus the extra care they took with the stitches and seams! The nylon ripstops are what protect the vest from damage, tears, and holes, so don't expect to see any sprouting any time soon! The zippers and the mechanisms present on the backpack are also rather sturdy, and they don't seem flimsy enough to fail before their time comes. Some users report that the vest feels flimsy when they hold it or carry it, pointing out the thin mesh layer. Well, it may seem that way, but we ensure you that the vest will last the mile. It's that thin layer that makes the vest lightweight and comfy, and it shouldn't scare you into thinking that it will fall apart!
Comfort & Size

Comfort & Size

The Vesta 4.0 is very comfortable, and it's thanks to its innovative design and mechanisms. The fit is what determines most of the comfort levels, so you must make sure that you've chosen the right size for your body. The Vesta comes in two sizes, XS/S, and M/L. Before you decide on the correct number, you must measure your circumference. After making sure that you've got the exact number you need (measure the widest part of your chest, right under the armpits), choose the size accordingly, and if you're between two numbers, go for the bigger one! One feature that is rather unique to this vest is the cinching mechanism. The Comfort Cinch technology is made out of some plastic pieces and a shock cord which is placed in the back panel. By pulling on this cord, that dangles freely, you actually pull the side panels closer to the back panel, creating a tighter fit. This way, you can adjust the fit whenever and wherever you feel like it, without having to stop to do so! The Vesta is also rather lightweight and stretchy, so it hugs you tightly yet comfortably, which is just what you need when you run. Some users report that the material the vest is made out of sits too high, and it rubs their necks raw. This should be solved with a shirt, but the material just goes above the line where the shirt ends, so you might run into issues there. It shouldn't rub you raw, but it's enough to make a distraction.
Breathability

Breathability

These backpacks made for running are very different from regular backpacks, and the reason why is simple - they sit much closer to your body and skin than regular backpacks do, which is why breathability matters a lot when it comes to these vests. Ultimate Direction made sure that The Vesta 4.0 is a very breathable piece of clothing. By incorporating mesh of all kinds into the construction of the vest, they have shown us that they really mean business. The mesh sits strategically around the straps and the back panel, and even if the backpack hugs you too tightly, or if you sweat just a little too much, the vest will not be moist, nor will you feel too warm, as the air can circulate freely throughout the mesh. The mesh also wicks away moisture, so even if you do moisten the back panel and the straps, the sweat will quickly trickle down to the surface and evaporate, never to bother you again!
Features

Features

The Vesta 4.0 comes with a lot of features that make it an excellent addition to your running apparel. The very first things we feel we should mention are the two flasks that sit at the front, nestled safely in the shoulder straps. The vest comes equipped with these bottles, which is great because they are rather expensive when bought alone. They are soft flasks, so they can expand quite a bit. You will be able to fit them inside the pockets with ease when they are not full, but when you fill them up completely, you might have issues with putting them inside the pockets. If you do struggle, try sucking out all the excess air to shrink the bottles as much as possible, and you should then have an easier time putting them in the pockets. The Vesta 4.0 does not have a water bladder, but it does have a compartment for it if you wish to buy one.

The Vesta is equipped with many pockets. There are a total of four pockets on the front. Of course, two of those are reserved for the bottles or flask, while the other two are small and closed off with zips. These are ideal for snacks, tissues, and other small yet necessary items. There are four pockets on the back panel as well. There's a large pocket we mentioned above, which has plenty of space for all kinds of valuables. Two smaller pockets sit on the side panels, and they too have a zipper that guards the valuables inside. The last pocket is the stuff pocket which can be accessed through the top part of the vest. The bottles will not flask or add too much extra weight, so there's no need to worry about that. The back panel has a bungee cord where you can put your jacket or shirt if you wish, and it also gives the backpack a cool look. There are elastic straps on the vest, where you should tie your poles to.
Style

Style

The Vesta 4.0 looks like a vest, which makes sense considering the name. It doesn't look that good, but the streamlined design and sleek upper make up for that. It just looks like a vest that they turned into a backpack, which is nothing to write home about. With that being said, the Vesta 4.0 is still an amazing backpack, and if you don't care about looking amazing when you run, you should definitely go for it. The Vesta comes in only two colors - baby blue and baby pink, and we wish there were more options available. The colors available are very bright and lively, and they can liven up most outfits. This is true for the women's Vesta, the men's version comes in different colors.
Value

Value

When compared with other running backpacks, the Vesta does come off as a rather pricey one. Costing about 150 dollars, it's even pricier than some specialized running shoes, which can put some people off. But we do believe that The Vesta 4.0 has a lot more value than the price point says! The materials are excellent, there are a lot of pockets left for you to use, and the flasks are already included with your purchase. Plus, the vest is expertly crafted and it should last you a very long time.
The Final Word

The Final Word

The Vesta 4.0 is one truly amazing backpack. It has plenty of pockets for you to store your valuables. The material blend is excellent, with four different kinds of mesh that keep you cool and comfy, and the nylon ripstops that increase the durability of the vest. The front two pockets are equipped with soft flasks which hold plenty of water to keep you going throughout the day, and the pocket on the back panel is large enough to fit a water bladder if you wish to carry even more water with you. The cinching mechanism is amazing, as it allows you to customize the fit on the go. The only issue is maybe the lack of colors and the price point, but they are really not so problematic which is why we believe that the Vesta 4.0 deserves a spot on your back!
