The Nordictrack adjustable dumbbells are a great option for those that need a good set of free weights and want to keep their workout space nice and tidy. This set includes a set of 2.5, 5, 7.5, 10, and 12.5 free weights in one sleek package.

Users have the option of increasing the weight by 2.5-pound increments with a super easy-to-use adjustment system that will make drop sets just a little snappier. It also comes with a tall weight stand that allows you to rack your weights at user height to prevent constantly bending over.

The adjustable dumbbells and included stand are incredibly slim. This design allows you to place them discreetly up against a wall or next to your treadmill for quick and easy access. Key Features

PERFORMANCE

Overall, this weight set is designed more for aerobic and fat-burning exercises due to the lower weight options. The highest weight setting offered is 12.5 pounds, which is relatively low when compared to other adjustable weight options out there on the market. It’s a great option for those that want a set of 5 different dumbbells that won’t take up that much room in your home workout space.

I would suggest these free weights for those that are engaging in workouts such as cross-training or other fat-burning exercises when a small set of weights can up the challenge in a big way. I like to grab these dumbbells when recovering on the treadmill for an added challenge.

While they are marketed for cardio exercises, they are also a great tool for bodybuilders as well. Often, the smaller muscle groups demand lower weight and higher reps that you simply cannot target with heavier weights. I like to use these dumbbells for tricep works such as lateral raises or tricep extensions at higher reps to really sculpt those smaller and hard-to-reach muscle groups.

If you are in the market for something that is a little more extreme for serious bodybuilding, NordicTrack also offers more heavy-duty options at a much higher price point. Many of their heavier designs clock in at around 55 pounds and only allow for 10-pound jumps in weight.

They come in at a much higher price point and don’t offer the same level of fine-tuned adjustability as the SpeedWeight adjustable dumbbells.

However, if you want a full set of dumbbells that run the gambit, investing in both a heavy and a lighter set is a great way to fill out your weight set without taking up a lot of room in your home gym!

GRIP

The grip on this design is a little unusual when compared to other free weights out there on the market, but the unique grip is perfect for many users. Instead of utilizes a steel grip with knurling, this design opts for a softer foam grip.

What I love most about this grip option is that it helps to wick sweat away from your hands, which is ideal when engaging in cardio workouts. I have used lower weights with a steel knurled grip for cross-training before, and the weights are always on the verge of slipping out of my sweaty hands.

For higher weights, a foam grip is not the best option. However, due to the fact that these weights max out at 12.5 pounds, I feel that the softer grip is the overall better choice. It’s important to note that this style of grip isn’t quite as durable as a knurled grip, and could even start to flake and tear over time.

While it isn’t quite as durable, it’s an overall better choice for users that want to use these for cardio workouts and aren’t necessarily interested in building callouses on their hands.

ADJUSTABILITY

One of the things that users love most about this design is that they are super easy to adjust. To change up your weight, simply slide that adjustment peg to your desired weight, and then lift the weight up and off of the stand.

When you need to increase or decrease the weight, you will need to place the weights back onto the stand, turn the peg, and lift off again.

This design includes weights that range from 2.5 pounds to 12.5 pounds and allows users to make modest 2.5-pound adjustments to the weights.

While the adjustments made to this design are super quick and easy, there is one downside to this set. The weights are labeled on the base of the weight, and not the weight itself. When you lift the weights up off of the rack, there is no indication on the dumbbell of how much it weighs.

Basically, if the weights are placed away from the rack, there is no way of telling just how much it weighs unless you check the weight rack. This design flaw isn’t a deal-breaker, but it is something that is worth mentioning.

APPS

NordicTrack also includes a one-year membership to their impressive iFit app with the purchase of your dumbbell set. It’s important to note that to take advantage of this membership, it requires that you input your credit card information.

After a year, it will charge your credit card 15 dollars per month until you cancel. What I love most about this app is that it offers many workout programs that utilize your unique NordicTrack workout equipment. If you don’t quite know how to get the most out of your new dumbbell set, this app has a wide variety of unique workouts to help get you started on the right path.

What I love most about this app is that it also offers unique workouts that don’t require any additional equipment. It has workout programs such as yoga, running programs, and even dynamic stretching to keep your body in tip-top shape. They have daily workouts to keep things interesting and fresh, just like working out at the gym in the comforts of your own home.

This app also provides a little extra help to reach your fitness goals. Members have access to personal coaches to provide tips on nutrition, diet, exercise programs suited for your personal needs, and sleep analysis. For less than a monthly gym membership, you can gain the benefits of your local gym with a little bit extra!

PRICE

Building out your free weight set up in your home gym can get expensive, and it can get expensive fairly quickly. If you were to invest in 5 pairs of individual free weights, it would cost almost the same as this set of adjustable dumbbells, if not more.

Some of the name-brand free weights clock in at an incredibly expensive price point, even for the lower range weights! This adjustable set is not only affordable, but it takes up less room than individual free weights, and also includes an impressive 1-year membership to NorticTrack’s fitness app.

Overall, this set of adjustable free weights is the better value when compared to other options out there on the market.

Verdict

If you are on the hunt for a good set of dumbbells, adjustable options are always a great choice. Personally, I prefer adjustable dumbbells because they make my drop sets a little snappier, and I don’t have to be bothered with putting my weight away at the end of a brutal workout (not that I put my weights away while working out at home anyway!).

This set helps you dial up the challenge of basic cardio workouts, and it’s also a great tool for weight lifters that need lighter weights to target those smaller muscle groups such as your triceps. When compared to 5 pairs of free weights, you also cannot beat that super affordable price point.

If the style, functionality, and price weren’t enough to sell you, the additional subscription to the iFit app is just another reason to make the investment. What I love most about this app is that it offers unique and challenging gym-level workouts right in the comfort of your own home.

These workouts utilize adjustable weights which take the guesswork out of crafting the perfect workout yourself.
