The big compound movements, which are seen as most effective in weight training, can be done without distractions. This power rack is a true blessing to weightlifters and weight trainers everywhere. It maximizes results with its ultra-functional built. What’s more, the PowerLine PPR200X Power Rack comes with a reasonable price tag.

Build Quality

This power rack is a rather good looking one. It has a sleek design, and frames that have a two-toned surface, black and gray. The frame itself is gray, while the little pieces holding the frame together are jet black, so nothing too complicated yet still nice to look at. The rack itself is made out of 12-gauge steel and it holds together very well. Some users report that the paint tends to chip off, potentially exposing the steel to corrosion, but there are ways to mitigate this. The manufacturer offers a 10-year warranty for the unit’s frame and a one-year warranty on the other parts. That is proof enough that the PowerLine PPR200X is made to last. It is durable, it is easy to use, and it is ideal to have around. It’s one worthy investment you would surely adore. The weight capacity of this rack is 600 pounds. This is enough for beginners and intermediate lifters, but if you really want to go heavy you may find the PPR200X not strong enough. This is a frame that doesn't have a lot of shiny things to show off with, but it's well rounded and gets the job done. The walk-in space is wide and gives you plenty of room to do just about anything you set your mind to. This rack does lack some plate storage pegs, and it doesn't have as many bars as one would wish, but you can easily buy the accessories and have your full power cage and stand by in no time.

You can adjust the rack in 18 different ways, with the adjustment levels sitting just 3 inches apart. This is what most standard power cages have, so it should be enough for fitness enthusiasts. yet, some people feel that this power cage lacks more adjustment settings because you can only place the bars down to your knee level - there's no room for anything closer to the floor. This means that you won't be able to do any exercises that require you to bend, and the number of exercises you can do is smaller here than on some other standard power racks. The holes do not have any numbering on them, so you might struggle a little bit with placing the bar at the same height, and you can quickly fix this by labeling the holes yourself. The pull-up bar which comes with this rack is great though. It has a diamond knurl pattern that is just deep enough to offer you a good grip without tearing your skin open. But if you want to be on the safe side, it's always good to wear a pair of gloves or grips. When you perform the pull-ups, you may notice that the rack wobbles slightly. It does weigh about 130 pounds, so if you want to be on the safe side it's a good idea to bolt the rack to the ground.

Stability

The most common issue with power racks is stability. You want it nice and firm to hold its ground as you perform your routines. Not all power racks are able to do that. Some slide through or tip forward when they tackle on weight. The PowerLine Power Rack stays in place whatever amount of weight it has to deal with. This power rack comes equipped with two liftoffs which are heat tempered, and two safety rods that create a safe lifting environment. These rods are attached to the frame via pins, and they have spring-loaded bearings that make them even safer. The liftoffs are what Powerline substituted j-hooks for. Instead of having the usual j-design we're used to, these pins have enlarged heads which prevent the barbells from slipping off. The paint job of these parts is the problem though. It tends to chip off upon contact, and you'll soon be left with some rather unsightly parts.

Setup

Setting up this power rack is not so troublesome. Once the rack arrives, you can expect seeing three boxes. The boxes are quite strong, and you shouldn't worry about any damaged goods. The pieces are not so heavy, but there is one rather long box where having a partner to help out could be beneficial. You also get some instructions along with the parts that will help you set up the rack. The manual is filled with detailed illustrations that you should have no problems following. It's good to organize everything by size before you get to actually assembling the unit. Users report that the bolts were the most confusing part because the heads are all the same size yet the length varies, so mixing them up is a strong possibility. You won't get the tools you need with the parts, so you'll need to get your own tools. Of course, if you had someone there to help you carry the boxes, you should also ask the person to stay and help you assemble the thing - you can probably do it by yourself, but it's going to be much easier if you have a helping hand. The assembly takes about one hour if you do it alone, but if you've got someone there you'll be able to try out the rack in a mere 20 minutes or so!

Accessories

You can get some pretty decent add-ons and accessories for this power rack. You can get a lat attachment, some grips, and even ab slings if you want to do some hanging ab work. The dip rack attachment is probably the most popular one. This dip station opens up new ways to work on your upper body, effectively increasing the number of exercises you can do. There's not much hassle when you want to install these, you just need to rest them on the safety spotter bars. The handles on the dip station actually taper down, so you'll get more ways to grip the bar and target different muscles. The lat attachment is one more accessory we feel like it's worth mentioning. This lat attachment can actually handle up to 2200 pounds, so you'll have more than enough opportunities to use the attachment. The mechanism is smooth and you won't need to strain to use it, even just when you start using it. One thing you should remember is that this lat attachment actually goes on the back of the rack and adds 24 inches more to the cage, so make sure you've got enough room for it.

The Final Word

The PPR200X is a great power rack that is well suited for most people. It's rather cheap and the value you get for that money is excellent. The weight capacity is quite good, there's a lot of good attachments, and the rack is stable enough, although it does tend to wobble slightly. The walk-in space is wide and you'll have plenty of room to add a bench if you wish to. The paint job is a bit poor though and it may chip off, and the 600-pound weight capacity may not be enough for some more experienced lifters. If you need a rack that has a better weight capacity, go for a Rogue rack!
